Salt Lake Buddy Walk (September 29th)

The Cooper Bowden Memorial Golf Tournament
On September 22, 2007, Travis Bowden, along with Jason Collier and all their co-workers from Collier, Webb, Bowden & Associates of Amerprise Financial, sponsored an amazing golf tournament for the UDSF. The Cooper Bowden Memorial Golf Tournament was held in honor of Travis and Chelsea Bowden’s son Cooper, who was born and passed away on August 15, 2007.
Travis contacted the UDSF on behalf of his group when he found out that his unborn son had Down syndrome. His company wanted to sponsor a charity golf tournament to honor the birth of his son, and plans were well underway when Cooper arrived. In spite of the untimely passing of Cooper, Travis and Amerprise decided to go forward with the tournament, renaming it the Cooper Bowden Memorial Golf Tournament.
It was a wonderful day, with over 100 people participating! Individuals with Down syndrome greeted the golfers as they registered, posed for pictures with the participants, and had a great time riding around in the golf carts. Lunch time included a raffle and a performance by the very talented Becca Winegar. At the end of the day, Amerprise Financial had raised over $8000 in donations for the UDSF!
The following individuals and groups were hole sponsors for the tournament:
Collier, Webb, Bowden & Associates of Amerprise Financial
Isagenix
Larry N. Klinger & Associates
Les Schwab
General Distributing
Country Carpets
J&J Technical
Cerva, Browning, Quinn & Co.
Robinson Family Dental
After Hours Medical
Impressions Studio & Gallery
The UDSF expresses thanks and appreciation to Travis and Chelsea, to Jason Collier, and to all of those participants who helped make this such a fun and successful event.
The Cooper Bowden Memorial Golf Tournament was held September 27, 2007.

Davis Chapter Buddy Walk
Hi everyone,
I hope you all had a good time at the Buddy Walk. We had a record number of walkers, and a record number of volunteers. Thank you to Nathan Christensen who ran our games for his eagle project, and to Ryan Richins who organized the 5K run. We had 51 runners for our first race! These boys did an outstanding job. Jordyn Arnold provided our craft for us as one of her Young Women projects. She was so organized! We couldn't have done it without you.
I also want to thank Jill Puffer for arranging the coke products for us, the painting by Lester Lee for the raffle and the beautiful Japanese Maple tree, and Janalee Moeller for getting the cookies. Christy Martindale ran the cotton candy machine for us and obtained the lounge chairs and nascar signed helmet for the raffle. Jeremy Holm is our olympic bobsledder who came to let the kids try out his sled. Michelle Cooper was our registration and volunteer table coordinator. Tony Hansen from Claypole Corner blew up all of our balloons and provided many raffle prizes. Visit her boutique on Layton 721 N. Main for its Grand Openning on October 5th. Toni has done our balloons for 3 years now. Dave "Snake" Peterson cooked our lunch, helped set up etc. etc. with the help of the Viewmont Football team. Way to go guys! Shellie Durrant also worked hard getting many raffle items. I also have to thank my husband James, and my kids for all their hard work and putting up with a crazy mom for months! Ryan Mackenzie of Echotech Wireless sponsored our new T-shirts for this year (He is Mikey Craynor's uncle)
Prizes!!! The Ammon Cheney team won the prize for the most people on their team at the Buddy Walk and 5K with 42 people!
Pallin' with Dallyn won the prize for the most money raised for a team which was over $900. They just barely beat out Sydney's team!
Gold Medal Mikey, The Bliss Bunch and Ketchup with Sydney all won prizes for creative team names and name badges.
I'll get your gift certificates to you or send them in the mail!
I know there are more people to thank and as my brain returns to normal I'll remember them in another email. Thanks to all who attended and walked because it was such a beautiful sight to see all of our kids participating.

Weber/Morgan/Rich Buddy Walk
The morning started out great and we figured we wouldn't get rained on. Hah!! We were all glad when the grill showed up at 10:00. So we started the grill early to huddle around to keep warm and we drank hot chocolate which we sent a runner for. When the wind kicked up, we got an additional tarp to block the pesky chill. We painted faces, did tattoos, and took walks in the beautiful park in the rain. We were entertained by a young walker with a yen for karaoke to High School Musical 2. We finished with a raffle and gave away all the cookies as part of the gifts (we hadn't planned on that but it worked great.) The leftover buns and hot dogs we gave to the homeless shelter who needed them more than we did. (And we couldn't take the buns back anyway.) Attached are some pictures that turned out great.
Our profound thanks to the Gould family for the food donation, and the Child family support group volunteers Michelle, Clay, Heather 2, Cindy, Shelby, Nicole, Heather 3, J.T., Vern, Lola, Irene, Aaron, Alex, Anthony, Bryce, Lorah, Elizabeth, and Stephanie.
We're all convinced we need to go to Logan and steal the Cache Valley indoor walk idea. So Shalee and I are going up to take a look on the 27th. We appeared to have made a small profit on the event even with the few of us that came, mainly because we had cool raffle gifts and greedy support staff who wanted them.

C.A.S.T. for Kids
C.A.S.T. for Kids was held on Saturday, August 11. This is such a fun day for everyone involved! Valerie Heath-Harrison is the Outdoor Recreation Planner for the Bureau of Reclamation. Valerie and her committee do an amazing job putting this event together! Watch Reese Steins broadcast on KUTV at http://kutv.com/roughingit/local_story_230222233.html

UDSF Day at Lagoon
August 20, 2007 dawned hot and sunny --- a perfect, cloudless day to enjoy UDSF Day at Lagoon! Since 2001, UDSF families have gathered together at the Maple Terrace Pavilion for free cookies and soda and the opportunity to meet others who have someone special with Down syndrome in their lives, while at the same time enjoying the super buy-one-get-one-free discounts! We had a record turnout for the 7th Annual UDSF Day at Lagoon, and by the looks on the faces of those in the photos, you know what a fun time everyone had! (If you have other photos of Lagoon Day, please email them to amy@udsf.org!)

Zoo Day
"Ghost of the Bayou" was a big hit on Zoo Day. We had families from across the state join us on the 16 th of June at Utah’s Hogle Zoo. Our kids enjoyed seeing all the animals and being together with their friends and families. We had a fun time at the Peacock Pavilion. Many families with newborn babes were able to meet and talk about their experiences. The parents with the newborns were also very impressed with our older children, as the older children shared their accomplishments with the new moms and dads.

"Down the Fairway" Golf Tournament
"Down The Fairway" Golf Tournament was held May 24 th at Thanksgiving Point. A great time was had by all who participated. We brought in close to $20,000 and once all the expenses are paid we will have a profit of more then we have ever had with the previous tournaments. Our kids had a great time driving the golf carts and meeting the golfers, although it was a little chilly in the morning. Hot chocolate quickly fixed their chills. The Starbright Dancers had their debut performance. They were greeted with cheers and rounds of loud applause. This was another great event to help celebrate 30 years of this wonderful foundation.
