Our Kids

Becca Winegar

Hi,
My name is Rebecca. I live at home with my mom and dad. I am currently attending Utah Valley State College in Orem Utah and a religious institute there. I have many interests, especially movies and the theater. I am taking college courses in Theater Arts. I have performed in many plays in our community and at the college. I especially love directing and doing behind the scenes work. I have directed two productions and am working on my third one. I also workout at a health club called FitQuest. I like to keep my body healthy and in shape. I've got muscles!

My mom and I do a lot of service projects at the universities and colleges in our community. We give presentations about the potential of people with Down syndrome. I like using Power Point for our presentations. My mom and I do this together. I usually share many of my experiences and they ask me questions and we always have a good time. I always sing a song called "Just Like You" because we are just like the rest of the population. We all have needs and talents and most especially - POTENTIAL

A Touching representation of children
with
Down Syndrome

Florence Hansen, renowned artist, sculptor, and my cousin, talked to me about making a statuette to represent the population of people with Down syndrome. Since I am the person with Down syndrome whom Florence knows best, the figurine was modeled after me. I am thrilled to have this beautiful representation of me when I was five years old. She called this one "Special Children".

I would like to share that joy with you. As you can see I looked a lot like many of your little girls look. I am holding a very dainty, unfrightened butterfly in my outstretched hand. I think this shows the loving nature of so many special children.

I have a cousin named Lindsay who is the model for the little boy with Down syndrome. He loves his dog. Florence named him "DEVOTION".

I have taken on this project of selling these statuettes for my future. For each statue sold we make a donation to our Parent support group. If you would like to share in this exciting venture, please give me a call or write me a note. I will be pleased to ship a copy of either one or both of these statues to you. They make wonderful gifts for all occasions.
